Top 10
10.Peter Criss..Peter was another drummer that I was really big on in my youth not only was he different
in that he wore make-up but he was different as a drummer as well. the jazz influenced riffs that he infused with rock-n-roll.Then
I would have to say the size of his drum kit. It was massive which added to his visual performance. I usta practice this little
drum riff when I first started it was just 8th notes on the floor tom standard 2 and 4 on the snare with quarter notes on
the bass drum, every 8 counts I would switch up the floor tom for an upper tom and repeat this baet over and over and
over and over (you get the idea) Rock -N- Roll All Night (that never dawned on me till years later that it was what I
was playing) Guess I was more worried about just keeping it in time. recomended listening: Detriot Rock City, Love Gun, 100,000
Years, God of Thunder.
9.Jason Bonham Jason was taught by his father (wish I was) I've seen him many times
live, and in a small settings. His drumming is incredible the power is all there just a damn shame that Led Zeppelin (never
as of yet) reformed because Jason has been more than ready for 20 years easily.I will never forget meeting and talking with
him.As he shared a story of his Dad that me and my brother-in- law sat like little kids at story time. He was such a kind
and giving soul to take time out for a couple of shmucks like us. I will never forget that listen to Wait For You,In Honor
Of My Father.
8.Steve Smith The Drummer behind Journey. His Jazz influences bleed into rock and roll
to create some the most unique drum lines in history. After figuring out his beats for the Journey Tribute Arrival the band
that I am the drummer for. Steve made his way to my list. Listen to Don't Stop Believing, Partys Over, Dixie Highway.
7.Nicko McBrain Nicko is to me,rolls time changes, rudements and power. I was introed
into his world on the Heavy Metal movie sound track he was featured with the band Thrust and when that band and Iron Maiden
switched drummers it was a match made in heaven or helllll lol recomended listening The Trooper, Aces High, Wasted Years,
Sign Of The Cross.
6.Tim Alexander Tim (Herb) Alexander is the modern drummers drummer.I first fell upon
his work with the insane Tommy The Cat,I was hooked, the riffs, the originality, the doubles. into more depth of Tim lies
the beats to many drumming masterpieces John The Fisherman,My Name Is Mud, Jerry Was A Racecar Driver recomended.
5. Deen Castronovo Deen first caught my eye drumming for G//Z/R, which is Geezer Butlers side
project he just blew me away. I seen the tour they did and he reproduced EVERYTHING that's AMAZING because even after 35 years
of drumming I find that stuff to be HARD to replicate. He ended up in Journey and how cool is that. He also played with OZZY.
Suggested listening: Perry Mason, Plastic Planet, House of Clouds.
4.Tommy Aldridge.. Tommy is one of my hero's from his approach to drumming.and double bass work.Tommy
had the dream of dreams playing with Randy Rhoads and he did it better than I think anyone could.I learned alot from his double
bass video and I enjoyed Project Driver alot.Recomended Listening:The Tribute Disc,Project Driver Disc
3.Neil Peart....Neil peart (the professor)
I love every aspect of what this man does, his solo work is mind blowing. From traditional grip to matched grip it doesn't
matter he has mastered them all. after watching some of his video's I found my toms were higher and my snare was up(did this
happen to you too) and it made a difference in how fluid I could play.I was able to see him 3rd row live at Gund (now the
Q) Arena. and it changed my life better pick up the Rush in Rio DVD and check out the solo again and again and again.Recomended
listening: Subdivisions,Xanadu,The Tree,Spirt of Radio
2. John Bonham.. I was introduced to Bonham when it was to late/ his death:( right around 1980 I
mean I heard alot of Zeppelin but I really didn't get it till then. Now that he is gone all I can do is look upon what could
have been like the rest of you. what he is to me is speed, dedication, and power, I wished many times we could have seen him
play a double bass kit BUT again I guess He Did but on one foot.Recomended listening: Good Times/Bad Times, Achilles Last
Stand, The Song Remains The Same.R.I.P.
1.Bill Ward ... Why? well let me explain he was the first drummer that really had it all. Bill was
jazz influenced and played with alot of feeling. Bill played along to Tony and Geezers riffs instead of just keeping time,
he is to me and will always be the one that just tore all other drummers a new ass. his hard edge, soft interludes, and use
of double bass... HE IS A PIONEER OF HEAVY METAL! recomended listening : The Wizard, War Pigs, Radio (Am I Going Insane),
Black Sabbath (the song),
Special Mention:Rick Allen
Rick Allen of Def Leppard is a incredible human being who lost his arm in a horrible car wreck. His determination
and pure love of the instrument is a inspiration. He had to relearn how to play, sit, and live, also cheers to Def Leppard
for standing by the man when his cards were down! One hell of a story if you ask me NGU (never give up)
